NOAA-11 SBUV Motor Power Off, 5 June 2003 > =================================== After 14.5 years of service the NOAA-11 SBUV became stuck during end-of-life testing on 14 May 2003 (J-134). After several unsucessful attempts to unstick it, NOAA declared the SBUV unoperational and plans to turn the SBUV motor power off on Thursday, 5 June 2003. In the best interests of the spacecraft NOAA plans to upload grating position 205 to the position mode word of Flex 0 (the segment the SBUV is currently using), initiate Position Mode, and turn the SBUV motor power off. This would leave the instrument electronics on, as well as the baseplate heater, which will provide a sufficient load for the power supply. If any Direct Readout users have concerns with this course of action, please notify NOAA at: nesdis.osdpd.ipd.info@noaa.gov prior to Wednesday, 4 June 2003. Posted to the NOAASIS 1800 UTC 29 May 2003
