Single Chord Operations > ============================= GOES "single chord" operations, made necessary by lunar and solar intrusions at the edge of the Earth disk, impact navigation and registration for short periods. Users of GOES GVAR data will see variable errors during periods of single chord operations as noted below. Single Chord Operations for the Bevel effect are listed when applicable. Bevel effect operation is intended to avoid a seasonal spacecraft pointing problem with all GOES spacecraft caused by the sun's light reflecting into the earth sensor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Details: GOES-12, GOES-10, and GOES-9 data users: The Fall 2004 Eclipse and Keep Out Zone (KOZ) schedules are now available on our web page at http://www.ssd.noaa.gov or more directly at http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/SATS/eclipse.html The schedules are for both the Imager and the Sounder instruments, and are for GOES-12, GOES-10, and GOES-9. The schedules can be found by clicking on the entry for "GOES Satellite Operations", and clicking on the entry for Eclipse Schedules, or by directly following the link: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/SATS/eclipse.html Note that all documents can be printed on 8.5" x 11" paper in a landscape paper setting. For your convenience, the eclipse schedules provided in HTML, Excel, and Adobe PDF format. **NEW THIS SEASON** Eclipse and KOZ schedules will only be provided for GOES Routine Imager and Sounder schedules. To facilitate Rapid Scan (RSO) and Super Rapid Scan (SRSO) operations around eclipse times, both GOES-12 and GOES-10 imagers will be set into the Routine imaging schedule at set times around eclipse periods, eliminating the need for a two hour "window" around eclipse times where RSO/SRSO could not be performed. This will allow for more RSO/SRSO frames to be taken closer to actual eclipse times. For GOES-12, the period of Routine "only" Schedule will be: August 13 - October 28, 2004 - 0345Z to 0642Z For GOES-10, the period of Routine "only" Schedule will be: August 14 - October 29, 2004 - 0729Z to 1038Z. In summary, for the above times, only frames from the Routine Schedules will be taken, no Rapid Scan or Super Rapid Scan will be performed during these times. Rapid Scan/Super Rapid Scan will be allowed up until the cutoff times (0345Z for GOES-12; 0729Z for GOES-10) **Also new this season - OSO/SOCC will cancel some frames at the end of the Fall 2004 Eclipse season to allow for INR recovery on all three spacecraft. These entries are designated as CNX (canceled frame) or S.FD (Short Full Disk). These schedules are similar to INR recovery following a spacecraft maneuver. The dates and times for the INR recovery are as follows: GOES-12 SCAN SCHEDULE 0345 TO 0638Z OCTOBER 16 AND 17: N. HEMISPHERE IMAGER SCANS AT XX15 AND XX45Z. (19 MIN. FULL DISK SCAN AT 0545Z.) CONUS SOUNDING SCAN AT XX46Z. GOES-10 SCAN SCHEDULE 0800 TO 1044Z OCTOBER 17 AND 18: N. HEMISPHERE IMAGER SCANS AT XX00 AND XX30Z. CONUS SOUNDING SCAN AT XX01Z. GOES-9 SCAN SCHEDULE 1225 TO 1524Z OCTOBER 14 AND 15: 15 MINUTE FULL DISK IMAGER SCAN AT XX25Z. NO SOUNDING SCANS.
