First phase of the GOES LRIT/WEFAX Transition Plan implemented on 21 August 2003

NOAA successfully conducted a GOES LRIT transmission test on 21 August 2003 
from 17:50 to 17:58 UTC. NOAA plans to continue taking advantage of two daily 
"vacant" time slots in the GOES East WEFAX schedule to transmit LRIT data.  
Effective on 21 August 2003, NOAA will provide LRIT data transmissions during 
these vacant time slots each day Monday through Friday, excluding U.S. Holidays, 
throughout the months of August and September. The first daily test transmission 
period will be from 16:50 to 17:06 UTC. The second daily test transmission period 
will be from 17:50 to 17:58 UTC. Daily timeshare transmissions of LRIT are planned 
to start in early October.
