GOES WEFAX Schedule Abbreviations
The following abbreviations are used in the GOES-East and GOES-West WEFAX transmission
schedules:
ANAL: Analysis for latest data
APT4: Base map area "APT4" for weather charts
AVIAT: Aviation map product
Cnn: METEOSAT image, visible wavelength sector (see http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/meteosat/graphif.shtml)
Dnn: METEOSAT image, infrared wavelength sector (see http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/meteosat/graphif.shtml)
DIR: Day infrared image
Enn: METEOSAT image, water vapor wavelength sector (see http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/meteosat/graphif.shtml)
FD: Full disc image
FLnnn: Flight level (for aviation charts). Example FL180 = 18,000 above sea level
GMS: Images from Japanese GMS satellite
HON1: Base map area Honolulu/Pacific for weather charts
HT: Height above sea level
IR: Infrared channel imagery
ISOTC: Aviation chart with isotachs
MER: Mercator map/image projection
MET-7: METEOSAT image
METEOSAT: Images from European METEOSAT satellite
MOIST: Moisture channel/water vapor image
MSLP: Mean Sea Level Pressure, for aviation charts
NE / NW: quadrant images, northeast, northwest, etc.
NH: Northern hemisphere
NIR: Night infrared image
NTnn: North Atlantic base map area nn
PAnn: Pacific Ocean base map area nn
PNnn: North Pacific base map area nn
POLAR: Mosaiced images from NOAA polar orbiting satellites
PRES: Pressure or pressure surface (in millibars)
PROG: Prognosis or forecast chart
PS: Polar stereographic chart or image projection
SE / SW: Quadrant images, southeast, southwest, etc.
SFC: Surface
SIGWX: Chart containing aviation significant weather
STM: Chart containing streamlines
STRM: Chart containing streamlines
TBUS: Text of NOAA polar orbiting satellite orbit prediction message
TEMP: Chart containing temperature information
THK: Chart containing thickness information
TMP: Chart containing temperature information
US: Satellite sector covering the United States
VIS: Visible wavelength imagery
VS: Vvisible wavelength imagery
VWS: Aviation chart with vertical wind shear information
Wnnn: Products are weather charts from NOAA. nnn is an internal NOAA
code number
WN: Winds aloft information contained on chart
WV: Moisture channel/water vapor image
