December 4th, 2003 Changes to the NOAA Product ID for GOES Images in the NOAA-Specific Lrit Header Record ===================================================== A planned system change will occur with the next release of the LRIT Transmission System, which will affect the NOAA Product ID field. This change will occur for GOES image-type products. Prior to this change, all GOES images had a NOAA product ID of seven (7). With the new system, the GOES images will have a NOAA product ID that will signify which GOES spacecraft generated the image. The NOAA Product SubID and Parameter fields, also contained within header #129 (the NOAA LRIT Header), will remain unchanged. The new values for the NOAA product ID are given in the table below: NOAA Product ID Spacecraft --------------- ---------- 10 GOES-10 11 GOES-11 12 GOES-12 13-40 Reserved for future GOES spacecraft 38 GOES-8 (temporary use as required) 39 GOES-9 (temporary use as required) The NOAA product IDs 0-6 and 8 were already reserved for other data types and could not be used for GOES spacecraft. The product subID field will remain unchanged; thus a one (1) will signify an IR full disk, a two (2) will signify an IR northern hemisphere, and so on. The parameter field will signify the image resolution as before. This system change is expected to take place in early 2004; however, test periods may occur before then in which the new product IDs are used. These test periods will be announced beforehand on this website and also by LRIT administrative messages. An updated IdList.txt file, applicable to the Domain 6 software provided on the LRIT website, will be made available shortly.
